Description/Interesting Notes:
A gorgeous, old time example of gem silica from New Jersey!!! While this specimen's old museum label identifies it as malachite, the
specimen is actually a significant portion of gem silica with an outer rind of chrysocolla and perhaps some tiny areas of malachite!!! The
locality is simply given as "New Jersey" although New Jersey is home to the oldest mine in the U.S.A, The Schuyler Copper Mine and it is quite possible
it came from here or old workings around Bridgewater Township!!! Not only is this specimen from a rare locality - it is absolutely gorgeous in person and is
superb, lapidary grade material!!! The rich seam of gem silica has a striking deep bluish green color with marked translucence and an attractive network of
lighter green areas!!! Under close examination, these lighter green areas appear to be possible inclusions of tiny, fibrous malachite crystals!!! The pics
really do not capture the intense, striking color that this specimen possesses!!! This specimen retains an old label from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museun with J. W. V. Rawlings (b. 1826) Collection notation!!!
The pics don't even come close to doing this unique old time beauty justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JUNE 23rd!!!
