Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of native gold & silver from this famed historic locality!!! This specimen consists of a quartz, calcite, and sphalerite matrix
that hosts a significant amount of gold and silver!!! The gold and silver are intermingled as electrum (silver-rich gold)
however, upon close inspection one can
find areas that look much like deep yellow native gold and areas that look like native silver as well!!! There are some acanthite crystals present amont the
calcite crystals, however there are significant amounts of acanthite to be found interlaced amount the sphalerite and chalcopyrite rich matrix!!!
While there are several eye-visible masses of gold var. electrum, upon inspection with
a loupe or scope, one can find that there is a significant amount of gold var. electrum interlaced throughout the cavities in the matrix!!! This specimen
retains two old, unattributed labels and shows the remnants of an old enamel label as well!!! Rare old time material!!! The pics
hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
