Description/Interesting Notes:
A very rare, old time example of native gold from North Carolina!!! Examples of native gold from North Carolina are very rare and highly sought after!!! This specimen
consists of a quartz matrix that hosts a significant showing of tiny masses of rich, buttery yellow native gold scattered across the entire
face of the specimen in association with some sericite mica!!! There are numerous, eye-visible masses of native gold across the specimen's surface but upon
closer inspection, one can see that this specimen is simply loaded with tiny, submillimeter masses of native gold in addition!!! This specimen literally
sparkles with native gold!!! For an old, rare locality specimen such as this it is quite significant indeed!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Upon close examination with a
loupe or scope, on can see a few tiny crystalline features in some of the larger masses!!! One can also see a few areas where the native gold is included within the quartz as well (there are a few
areas that look like streaks of native gold on the surface - these are actually the exposed edges of sheet-like masses of native gold partially included in the matrix)!!! This specimen
retains old labels from the Lazar and Seel collections!!! Paul Seel (b.1904)
worked for the Pennsylvania railroad and was
President of the Philadelphia Mineralogical Society!!! Seel and his wife were avid mineral collectors (buying, trading, and doing
extensive field collecting around the world) and the mineral seelite was named in their honor!!!
The pics hardly do this specimen justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MAY 5th!!!
