Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of native gold and chlorargyrite from Tombstone!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing
of dark grayish to translucent yellow-green chlorargyrite in association
buttery yellow native gold!!! The chlorargyrite is present both as "horn silver"-like crusts and
amorphous forms as well as very well formed complex crystals that range in size up to 4mm!!!
The native gold is scattered about the specimen and
there are many more small areas of native gold than the pics show!!! There is a significant mass of
bright native gold that is prominently positioned on the matrix and numerous tiny
masses closely intergrown with the chlorargyrite!!!
Much of the gold that was mined
in Tombstone was found in association with chlorargyrite - this is CLASSIC Tombstone material!!! There is
more gold present than it appears in the pictures, as it is often intimately folded into the chlorargyrite
crystals and masses!!! Specimens like this are very rarely seen today!!!
This specimen doesn't retain the original label, however it should be noted that this specimen was acquired with specimen No. DM-3766 (there were several original pieces from the same specimen) from the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum that had originally come from the
collection of Elton W. Walker!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
