Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of native gold and chlorargyrite from Tombstone!!! This
specimen hosts a rich showing of dark grayish to translucent yellow-green chlorargyrite
in association buttery yellow native gold!!! The chlorargyrite is present both as
"horn silver"-like crusts and amorphous forms as well as complexly crystallized
sheet-like compound crystals!!! The native gold is scattered about the
specimen and there are many more small areas of native gold than the pics show!!!
One end of the specimen hosts a particulary rich showing of eye visible native gold intergrown with the chlorargyrite, however
upon close inspection one can find tiny masses of distributed throughout the specimen!!!
Much of the gold that was mined in Tombstone was found in association with chlorargyrite
- this is CLASSIC Tombstone material!!! There is more gold present than it appears in the
pictures, as it is often intimately folded into the chlorargyrite crystals and masses!!!
Specimens like this are very rarely seen today!!! This specimen doesn't retain the original
label, however it should be noted that this specimen was acquired with specimen No. DM-3766
from the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum that had originally come from the collection of Elton W.
Walker (there were a few smaller specimens of identical material along with the labelled
specimen - while they were not parts of the specimen, they were clearly the same exact
material and likely from the same original mass)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
