Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic, rare old time example of native gold from Mexico!!! This specimen consists of a quartz matrix that hosts a rich showing of
native gold throughout in association with some pyrite and galena!!! The native gold
is present as brilliant, protruding masses of hackly crystals scattered all over the entire specimen!!! The
native gold is present in intimate association with a small amount of brassy pyrite and somewhat altered galena and stands in
striking contrast to both species!!! The native gold has an amazing, unique color and patina that is almost reddish-orange
in person!!! It is quite characteristic and particularly showy for its size!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! This specimen
is from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and retains an old detailed label from the Gabriel Collection!!! Gabriel's old label noted
that he acquired it from the Aguilar collection in May 1938 (Gabriel goes on to note that Aguilar was a man of
impressive wealth and means
"Sr. Aguilar was one of the earliest mining engineers in
Mexico" and that his home was a veritable museum of art and paintings!)!!! Examples of native gold from Mexico are
quite scarce!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY AUGUST 4th!!!
