Description/Interesting Notes:
An absolutely INCREDIBLE example of petzite and native gold from Colorado!!! This specimen hosts an extremely rich showing of
darkly colored petzite intimately associated with native gold!!! Nearly all of the darkly colored material on this specimen is petzite!!! The
petzite likely represents the majority of the specimen by weight!!! There are numerous significant areas of eye-visible native gold
scattered around the specimen!!! Although it is difficult to appreciate in the photos, there are also
significant areas within the petzite that host very intimately combined petzite and native gold - upon close inspection with a loupe or scope they could best be described
as areas of spongiform native gold that are completely saturated with petzite!!! While this specimen is quite exceptional due to
its significant mass and richness - there are also some truly incredible CRYSTALS of petzite present!!! There is one sharp, cubic
crystal that is complete, undamaged, and prominently positioned in a vug with a significant showing native gold in close association!!!
Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope there are numerous other smaller crystals to see as well!!! Although these are submillimeter crystals
they are still quite exceptional for the species and locality!!! This is an AMAZING specimen in so many regards - and the pictures simply
do not capture just how rich and significant it is!!! This specimen came from old material that came from the A.E. Seaman Museum - the
material had not been catalogued but was noted as coming from the German mineralogist B. Klose!!! This rich and hefty specimen weighs 67 grams!!! Rare old
time material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JANUARY 5th!!!
