Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic, rare old time example of native gold from Mexico!!! This specimen consists of a quartz matrix that hosts
a rich showing of native gold in association with pyrite and galena!!! The native gold is present as brilliant
hackly crystals in intimate association with the pyrite and protruding from the quartz matrix!!!
There is a well formed single crystal of pyrite that has a ring of native gold around it and partially included within it as well!!!
This specimen is the last of a trio of specimens that originally came from the A.E. Seaman
Mineral Museum and had been donated from the Donald C. Gabriel Collection!!! Gabriel's old label noted that he
acquired it from the Aguilar collection in May 1938 (Gabriel goes on to note that Aguilar was a man of impressive
wealth and means "Sr. Aguilar was one of the earliest mining engineers in Mexico" and that his home was a veritable
museum of art and paintings!)!!! Examples of native gold from Mexico are quite scarce!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
