Description/Interesting Notes:
A unique and rare example of native gold in talc from the former Rhodesia!!! This specimen consists of a dense, translucent mass of talc
that is richly included with brilliant, buttery yellow native gold!!! The native gold has brilliantly metallic luster and a rich
golden hue!!! The talc has marked translucence in areas and one can easily see that there is much more gold included within the specimen as well!!!
The talc is dense and fine, and the specimen has an overall smoothness and luster that is quite handsome in person!!! This is rare material
that likely dates to the early 1900's!!! This specimen came from a larger single specimen that originally came from the American Museum of Natural History (It
was labelled as coming from Sebunyue District, Rhodesia)!!! Similar material was noted in the 1906 Report of the Director to the Board of Trustees at the
Field Museum in Chicago... "Accessions by exchange include twenty
specimens of the minerals and ores of Rhodesia, from the Rhodesia Museum, South Africa. In this collection, an occurence of gold in talc is
particularly noteworthy"!!! This is rare and unusual old time material indeed!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JANUARY 5th!!!
