Hauckite with Pyrochroite and Sussexite
1100 Stope, 900' level, Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey
3.76cm x 3.15cm x 2.22cm
Description/Interesting Notes:
A terrific example of this very rare species from the type locality - Sterling Hill!!! This
specimen hosts numerous submillimeter crystals
of orange-golden hauckite scattered around a darkly colored mass of pyrochroite and in close association with tiny pinkish microcrystals
of an unidentified species!!! Upon close examination with a loupe or scope the hauckite is present as groups of thin, hexagonal plates!!!
The matrix is comprised of fibrous sussexite intergrown with willemite (?) that fluoresces a bright green with significant phosphorescence after
UV exposure!!! The unidentified pinkish crystals that are present around the pyrochroite are submillimeter in size but are quite lustrous and
have marked clarity!!! This specimen came from James Zigras and retains his original label as well!!! Rare material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
