Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic example of this rare and scientifically fascinating species from Chile!!! Herbertsmithite gained
notoriety in 2007 when it was reported that it posessed specific and unusual physical properties that make it
behave as a new state of matter (specifically related to String-Net Liquids)!!! Herbertsmithite is believed to
be a two-dimensional quantum spin liquid: a solid material whose atomic spins continue to have motion, even at
absolute zero temperature (according to recent research at MIT, there is compelling evidence that this is
indeed the case)!!! This rare material holds particular value to researchers and could very likely provide
new insights into a wide ranging variety of phenomena - with the most exciting being high-temperature
superconductors and quantum-computing!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of very well formed, significantly-sized crystals of rare
herbertsmithite scattered across the matrix!!! The crystals are sharp, lustrous, and have
characteristic deep green color!!! In addition to the herbertsmithite crystals, there are a few small areas of platy, bluish-green gordaite crystals
present as well!!! Simply a magnificent example of this rare and fascinating species!!!
This specimen was collected by Terry Szenics in 2004!!! These rare specimens are quite difficult to come by so don't miss out!!!
