A fantastic example of this rare and exciting, scientifically unique species from Chile!!! This specimen hosts a very rich showing of
well-formed crystals of deep green herbertsmithite on matrix!!! The crystals are sharp and lustrous with intense deep green color!!! Herbertsmithite
has made headlines recently due to research that suggests it may even be a previously unknown state of matter!!!
"Recent studies at MIT have investigated purified herbertsmithite in a study to determine if it is a new state of matter known
as a string-net liquid (see also: string-net). Current research is incomplete, however compelling evidence has raised the
possibility that it may be this previously unobserved state of matter. Unpaired electrons in herbertsmithite are arranged
in a triangular mesh termed a Kagome lattice. Unpaired electrons in many lattices form patterns in which neighboring spins
point in opposite directions; this requires that looped paths contain even numbers of atoms, so that their spins can always
alternate from one to the next. Theory predicts that a Kagome lattice, which contains odd-numbered loops, can support a
string-net electronic state."
Aside from this incredible and unique characteristic, this is a magnificent example of this rare species in and of itself!!! The pictures
hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! VERY EXCITING MATERIAL INDEED!!!
