Hodgkinsonite with Franklinite and Willemite Franklin Mine, Franklin, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey 5.2cm x 4.86cm x 3.84cm Ex. R. W. Stirling Collection

Description/Interesting Notes: A magnificent example this rare species from Franklin!!! This specimen consists of an impressive showing of crystalline pink hodgkinsonite in association with massive franklinite and curious, acicular colorless willemite!!! This specimen hosts NUMEROUS crystals of hodgkinsonite throughout the entire specimen - with crystals ranging in size to over 1cm!!! Upon close examination, one fines that the hodginsonite is in close association with unusual CRYSTALS of colorless willemite that are present as fine, elongated crystals and groups of crystals that are almost undetectable at first glance!!! The hodgkinsonite crystals have rich pink color, marked translucence, and sharp lustrous faces!!! The willemite crystals are quite fine and, upon first glance just look like curious irregularities in the hodkinsonite, however upon close inspection one can see that they are long, fine colorless crystals that both run across the surfaces of the hodgkinsonite crystals as well as puncture through them!!! Upon inspection with SW UV, the extent of the willemite's presence is immediately apparent however - the willemite fluoresces a bright intense yellow green!!! The hodgkinsonite crystals are way better than the pics show, and there is much more crystalline hodgkinsonite present than the pics show (in fact, the entirity of the hodgkinsonite could be described as crystalline)!!! There is a significant cavity lined with fine hodgkinsonite crystals that could likely be worth trimming (after looking inside it was very difficult to fight the urge!) - in fact, this specimen could easily be split into several significant specimens if so desired!!! This is a killer example of this rare species indeed!!! The pics don't even come close to capturing just how good this specimen is!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
