Description/Interesting Notes:
A superb, old time example of rare native iron from Greenland!!! Iron, as a native element,
is quite rare because it so readily oxidizes and forms other compounds!!! Most examples of elemental iron are usually
encountered as meteorites, with actual terrestrial examples of native iron being very scarce indeed!!! Most examples of
native iron from this classic Greenland locality consist of thin, brittle, rust covered sheets and splinters - however
this superb example consists of a significant, dense mass that has been carefully stored for the better part of a decade!!!
Old time Greenland native iron specimens of such quality are quite scarce indeed!!! This specimen is in fantastic condition
and retains an old label (circa 1940's) from Russ Buckingham as well!!! We recently acquired a
pair of superb native iron specimens from the Buckingham collection and this is the larger of the two
(the smaller one was listed last week)!!!
This specimen is very dense and solid - a particularly fine example of this rare native species from Greenland!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY AUGUST 11th!!!
