Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of ludlamite from the type locality in Cornwall!!! These old time,
type locality ludlamites date back to the 1800's and are quite scarce today!!! This specimen hosts
sharp, gemmy green crystals to over 7mm on a pyrite matrix in association with tiny brownish crystals of siderite!!!
While there is one incomplete crystal on the edge, the main crystals are complete and undamaged!!! The ludlamite crystals are lustrous, bright, and lively in person!!!
Not only is this a fantastic type locality ludlamite, this specimen has great provenance as well!!! This specimen retains several old labels including
labels from the Thurstons, Martin Ehrmann, and - most notably - a HANDWRITTEN label from William S. Vaux (for whom Vauxite is named)!!! While specimens
from Vaux's collection are well known from the Philadelphia Academy's deaccession of his bequest, this is a personal label from Vaux, written by him
in his lifetime!!! Simply an outstanding old timer!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY AUGUST 25th!!!
