Description/Interesting Notes:
An extremely rare example of malachite from the historic Pahaquarry mine in New Jersey!!! The
Pahaquarry Mine, actually a small group of mines, are considered to be some of the oldest workings in North America!!!
The first documented mining at the Pahaquarry mines was in the 1753, when John Reading Jr. (New Jersey Governer 1757-1758) purchased
the tract of land as a copper prospect, however it has been suggested that early Dutch settlers worked the mines in the 1650's!!!
This area is just a couple miles from the Delaware Water Gap and is today part of a National Park - any mines and adits have long since
been closed and sealed off!!! Specimens from this locale are extremely rare indeed!!! This specimen consists of a
large mass of characteristic matrix that hosts a rich showing of deep, emerald green malachite distributed across its
broad face!!! Upon close inspection in person the crystallization is much more significant than the pics show!!!
The malachite is present as highly compressed lathes and sprays of radiating crystals!!! The specimen is
quite colorful and attractive in person!!! This is old museum material and the specimen
retains affixed catalogue numbers on the reverse!!! This is extremely rare, historic material - don't miss out!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MARCH 28th!!!
