Description/Interesting Notes:
An absolutely magnificent example of malachite and native copper from this old rare locality!!! This specimen consists of a showy
example of lively green malachite with native copper!!! The malachite is present in numerous forms throughout the specimen, including significant sprays of
thick radiating crystals of primary malachite, lighter green fibrous malachite, botryoidal malachite, and malachite pseudomorphs after azurite!!! The combination of forms, textures, and
hues makes for a striking specimen indeed!!! In addition, there are numerous areas where native copper is present as well - one assumes there is a very significant mass of native copper within the specimen because it is very heavy for its size!!! The
copper is almost spongiform in appearance and, in many areas, has a unique deep red hue as a result of a coating of microcrystalline cuprite!!! The
native copper is a fantastic compliment to an already impressive malachite specimen!!! This rare locality old timer is from the collection of A.J. Beres and also retains an
antique label from Laszlo Dudas (Continental Minerals)!!! The pics don't even come close to doing it justice -
must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! NOTE: For some reason, the pictures show the specimen as much lighter in color than it is, in person this specimen is a rich deep green color
just like a fine malachite should be!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
