Description/Interesting Notes:
A superb, old time example of rare native iron from Greenland!!! Iron, as a native element, is
quite rare because it so readily oxidizes and forms other compounds!!! Most examples of elemental
iron are usually encountered as meteorites, with actual terrestrial examples of native iron being
very scarce indeed!!! Most examples of native iron from this classic Greenland locality consist of
thin, brittle, rust covered sheets and splinters - however this specimen consists of a
large, significant mass!!! As with most native iron specimens this specimen shows significant
alteration and oxidation, however there are numerous areas were metallic native iron can be seen!!! Old time Greenland native iron
specimens of such as this quite scarce indeed!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired
the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting
minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Prior to the Nikischer collection this specimen was
originally from the collection of Florence Mecke (acquired from the late 1930's until the 1970's)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY NOVEMBER 29th!!!
