Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent, old time example of this rare and highly prized precious opal from Virgin Valley!!! Let me start
off by saying that this specimen is way, WAY better than these pictures show!!! This specimen shows
electric, rainbow colored lasers of fire arranged in razor-sharp, parallel bands!!! The front of the
specimen hosts a large, thick area of INTENSELY colorful precious opal while the reverse hosts tan colored
wood opal!!! Often times these prized Virgin Valley
opals are stored in water to minimize their crazing - however this is very fine, robust, old time material that does
not require any special treatment (such examples are quite rare)!!! This specimen is simply amazing in person - the
fire is 10x as intense with the colored lazers of color being WAY more numerous and finely banded than the pics show - it is
truly unlike any opal I have ever seen before!!! This is a
valuable rare gem indeed (if it were cut en cabochon, the parallel bands of fire would create concentric circles btw)!!!
This specimen is from the collection of Benjamin Ackerman and the specimen has old,
unattributed catalogue labelling as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY APRIL 4th!!!
