Description/Interesting Notes:
An absolutely incredible example of Paraiba tourmaline from the classic locality in
Paraiba!!! Let me start off by saying that there sometimes seems to be some confusion as
to what "Paraiba tourmaline" is - I want to make it absolutely clear that this IS THE
REAL Paraiba tourmaline - true cuprian tourmaline!!! This specimen was acquired back in the 1980's and is nothing
short of incredible!!! The color is absolutely off the charts!!! There is simply nothing
else that even compares to true Paraiba tourmaline!!! This specimen hosts an amazing, gemmy Paraiba tourmaline
crystal on a massive quartz matrix!!! The crystal itself measures 35mm x 6mm - a VERY significant crystal indeed!!!
To find a crystal with significant gemminess, and of such a size, is simply unheard of!!! The color is absolutely CHOICE!!! As you can see,
there are also a few smaller crystals visible within the matrix as well!!!
Paraiba tourmaline specimens of such quality are extremely scarce because almost all the
material is immediately snatched up by the lapidary trade!!! This specimen was in Mandy's personal collection since we
acquired it several years ago (its price tag was $2750 back then and we jumped at it)!!!
While the term "Paraiba" gets thrown around rather loosely, I can assure you that
specimens such as this are unbelievably rare on the market and I have seen only a scant
handful of true Paraiba tourmaline specimens of such quality over the years!!! The pics don't even come close to doing this specimen justice!!!
