Olivine var. Peridot

Tolklai, San Carlos Indian Reservation, Gila Co., Arizona

5.6cm x 4.62cm x 4cm

Ex. George Kunz (1856-1932)

Ex. Irenee du Pont, Sr. Collection (1876-1963)

Ex. University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum

Description/Interesting Notes:

A classic, old time example of peridot from Arizona!!! This specimen consists of basalt matrix that hosts a rich showing of gemmy peridot!!! The peridot is present as intergrown nodules that exhibit handsome yellow-green color and translucent to gemmy clarity!!! This specimen originally came from the famed George Kunz (Kunzite, vice president of Tiffany's, etc.) before it went to Irenee du Pont, Sr. and then to the University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum (history is evidenced by the 351-prefix of the antique catalogue number, these were all the specimens DuPont acquired from Kunz)!!! OLD material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
