Description/Interesting Notes:
A classic, old time example of peridot from this historic locality!!! This locality has been mined for peridot since
1300 B.C.!!! The locality was all but exhausted by the end of the 19th century!!! These old time St. John's Island
peridot specimens represent some of the finest examples of the species and are only found today in old collections!!! This
specimen consists of a sharp single crystal that has bright luster, choice green color with gem clarity
throughout!!! Although the crystal is not complete, it has significant size for the locality, along with
particularly fine color and facet-grade gem clarity!!! The specimen has what appears to be a slight alluvial wear, which
really seems to amplify its color and "glow" in person!!! These classic Red
Sea peridot specimens are unlike any other and immediately recognizeable in person!!! Classic material!!!
This specimen is from the collection of
Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to
be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Prior to the Nikischer collection this
specimen was originally from the collection of Florence Mecke (acquired from the late 1930's until the 1970's)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
