Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent, old time example of petzite with altaite from this historic locality!!! This specimen hosts a significant area of SOLID petzite and altaite as well as
numerous other smaller areas and veins throughout the specimen!!! This large area is comprised mostly of darkly colored petzite with
a smaller, brighter area of encircled by the petzite!!! In person, the two species are easily distinguished, as the altaite exhibits a network of
cleavage faces that are all oriented in the same direction, producing a broad flash of metallic luster when viewed at the right angle!!! The petzite is
dense and solid with broad, lustrous conchoidal surfaces!!! This is a surprisingly large mass of solid petzite indeed!!! Upon close inspection, there are
several other areas of petzite scattered about the specimen, as well as some small areas of altaite as well!!! There are
some small areas that appear to host some crystalline petzite as well!!! There are also some tiny areas
that host some unidentified species as well!!! The petzite and altaite were both confirmed!!! Simply an amazing old time example of this rare gold and silver
bearing telluride!!!
This specimen retains an old enamel style catalogue number on it as well!!!
