Description/Interesting Notes:
This specimen was just recently listed as a "Pseudocubic Quartz from Maine" - however it is actually a magnificent
phenakite from Mt. Antero!!! While I thought that it
looked like a Colorado phenakite, I didn't think about it much further because it had Ernie's label with it and his
DETAILED notecard, describing how
he acquired it at the 1993 Maine Mineral Symposium!!! We are in the middle of moving to a new location so things have been a bit hectic this week - however
this was a great lesson about just blindly following a label!!!
In any case, I was even more excited to find out that this was indeed a phenakite and Ernie's label was incorrect!!!
This specimen consists of a large, pristine crystal of phenakite with glassy luster (on prism faces) and gemmy clarity!!! There are some
books of muscovite in association as well, and the crystal is aesthetically perched on a second smaller phenakite crystal!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS
WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MAY 13th!!!
