An absolutely incredible example of calcite replacing a PLANT from Mexico!!! This specimen consists of a tangle of plant matter - stems, roots, leaves that have
been partially replaced by calcite!!! There is still remaining plant matter which would lead one to conclude that the specimen must've been formed in the past several hundred years - much
like the "Calcite after Banana" specimen (dating to the 1906 San Francisco earthquake) that was on display at this year's Tucson show!!! The calcite has a somewhat botryoidal surface and a slight translucence!!!
In areas where one can see a cross section of the calcite, it is quite apparent that it is crystalline!!! Truly an extraordinary specimen!!! One can clealy see the
veins in the leaves and tiny buds on stems!!! This is truly a "once in a lifetime" specimen!!! This specimen is from the collection of Albert Peppis that we just acquired!!! We will be posting an update about this recent acquisition later
in the week via our "About Me" page so stay tuned!!!
