Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare and unusual example of native platinum ore from Germany!!! A significant find of platinum was made at this unique
German locality in 1914 by metallurgical chemists analyzing core samples taken from the area!!! The find was even noteworthy enough to be
discussed in the February 1914 issue of Popular Mechanics("Germany Adds to World Supply of Platinum")!!! The platinum
was found as micrograins of platinum and platinum bearing species in a sandstone matrix known as "graywacke"!!!
This specimen consists of a large portion of "graywacke" sandstone
matrix that is said to be unusually rich!!! One can see numerous darkly colored strata running through the matrix and
on the side of the specimen two of these thin, darkly colored
bands are partially exposed as well!!! Under close inspection one can even see a silky, metallic-like sheen to these areas!!! Additionally,
the broad face of this specimen has a partial coating of small calcite rhombs!!! This specimen weighs 570 grams and has appreciable
heft for sandstone!!! This specimem is from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and retains
its original label and affixed catalogue number!!! Additionally, the reverse of the label notes "Ward's 1916"!!!
Rare old time material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to
