Moncheite and related Platinum Group Metal Species
Level 17, Rustenburg Mine, Rustenburg District, Western Bushveld Complex, Northwest Province, South Africa
7.33cm x 4.3cm x .92cm
Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare example of this rare platinum and palladium bearing species from this famous locality!!! This specimen consists of a pyroxene matrix that
hosts numerous tiny grains of silvery metallic moncheite and other related Platinum Group Metal species!!! The matrix has
been cut and polished on one side!!! The pyroxene crystals have an almost moonstone-like schiller and the alternating angles of the
intergrown crystals makes for a showy specimen in and of itself!!! Upon close inspection one
can see numerous eye visible grains and masses on the opposite side of the matrix as well!!! Upon close examination with a loupe or
scope one can find some cleavage planes within the crystals that have ultra-thin masses of PGE species present in them as well!!! Rare
material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person
to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY OCTOBER 6th!!!
