Description/Interesting Notes:
A very rare, old time example of plattnerite and pyromorphite from this classic locale!!! While Joplin is well known for
its galena crystals, examples of other lead bearing minerals are quite scarce indeed!!! This is old material
that likely dates to the turn of the 1900's or earlier!!! This speicmen consists of a dense network of
chunky, intergrown pyromorphite crystals that are in various states of alteration in association with a rich showing of
dark black plattnerite!!! It is difficult to appreciate from this pics, but there is much more crystalline material
present than it appears!!! Upon close inspection there are numerous lustrous, sharply defined pyromorphite crystals scattered about!!!
There are also some areas where one can see the pyromorphite crystals altering to plattnerite!!! UUpon close inspection with a
loupe or scope one can see areas of crystalline plattnerite as well!!! This is old museum material and
retains an old museum label as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY APRIL 11th!!!
