Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent example of chalcopyrite after polybasite from Mexico!!! This specimen consists of an impressive cluster of large
polybasite crystals that have been completely replaced by brilliant, sparkling crystals of chalcopyrite!!! The pseudomorphs
retain the polybasite crystals' forms quite sharply, with numerous areas still exhibiting the sharply defined striations of the
original polybasite crystals!!! Upon close study, it appears that these specimens formed initially as chalcopyrite casts on
polybasite, then as alteration continuted there were some cavities left behind!!! In some areas, small partially hollow areas are
exposed!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope, one can see that these inner zones are actually comprised of an intimately
associated combination of chalcopyrite and acanthite!!! There are also several small cubic crystals of acanthite scattered about as well!!! This
specimen is very showy and dynamic in person - the pics don't even come close to capturing just how striking it is!!! Simply
a magnificent specimen all around!!! This specimen retains an old label from Dr. Mark Feinglos as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JANUARY 19th!!!
