Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic example of polybasite from a new find in ALASKA!!! This specimen came from a tiny find of
native silver specimens that also hosted a small amount of polybasite!!! There was only a very
small amount of crystalline polybasite found - perhaps a handful of specimens with poorly defined
crystals to a few millimeters - however this specimen is EXTRAORDINARY!!! This specimen was the
only such example found and consists of a cluster of thick, razor-sharp crystals of polybasite
prominently perched on a small amount of matrix!!! The crystals are complete, pristine, and undamaged!!! The
crystals have bright, metallic luster with subtle striations on the surfaces!!! The crystals are much
more lustrous than they appear in the pics!!! The crystals range in size to nearly 1.2cm!!! This
is a very significant Alaskan polybasite for sure!!! There is also a small amount of wire
silver protruding from the bottom of the characteristic matrix!!! The small pocket of native
silver specimens that contained this one incredible polybasite crystal
was one of the most exciting new finds that we encountered at the Denver show - there
were only a handful of specimens from the find in total and we acquired the entire lot!!!
During the brief moment this specimen
was on display, it was photographed by the Mineralogical Record and I am told it will very likely be in a future article (likely
regarding finds at the Denver show)!!!
This is an INCREDIBLE specimen in so many regards!!! You do not want to miss out on this rare and valuable Alaskan beauty - this is
truly a once in a lifetime specimen!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY OCTOBER 4th!!!
