Polybasite with Chlorargyrite & Native Silver Belmont mine, Tonopah, Tonopah District, Nye Co., Nevada 10.2cm x 7.9cm x 3.7cm Ex. A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum No. DM-2476

Description/Interesting Notes: A magnificent, old time example of silver ore from Nevada!!! Old time examples of silver and silver species from Nevada are quite scarce indeed!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of polybasite crystals (erroneously labelled as chalcocite on the old label) along with masses of tan-brown colored chlorargyrite and some minor wire silver!!! This specimen is somewhat large and there are several areas that could be fantastic specimens in their own right (I just couldn't trim a specimen with such provenance however)!!! There are numerous sharp crystals of polybasite all over the specimen and there are a number that are encased in chlorargryite "horn silver" as well!!! There are some small areas of native silver wires to be found and there are some small quartz points that actually appear to have inclusions of proustite or polybasite within them!!! There is a LOT going on with this rich old time Nevada silver specimen - the pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!! This specimen retains an old label from the Seaman Museum as well!!!
