Description/Interesting Notes:
A historic, old time example of pyrargyrite from the Comstock Lode!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of both massive and
crystalline pyrargyrite in association with gemmy calcite and some other sulfides!!! Upon close inspection one can see
numerous small crystals of
ruby red pyrargyrite in addition to the rich areas of massive red pyrargyrite!!! In addition to the pyrargyrite, there are
some surprisingly gemmy areas of calcite!!! The calcite has a light, golden color and marked luster!!! The calcite crystals
have some highly complex forms that are the result of networks of contact faces!!! Crystalline material from this region is
rare and these are terrific pyrargyrite crystals for the locality - however, I find
the calcite impressive as well!!!
Specimens from this locality are quite scarce today, as very few specimens survived smelting in the fervent search for riches!!! Nevada
is known as "The Silver State" due to its rich silver-mining history and it all began in this famous district!!! This specimen
was one of two crystalline pyrargryite specimens from the Gould & Curry Mine that came from Forrest Cureton!!!
This specimen retains an old label from Forrest Cureton as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY NOVEMBER 10th!!!
