Pyrite

Weehawken, Bergen Hill, Hudson Co., New Jersey

9.9cm x 6.04cm x 1.53cm

collected Sept. 1895

Description/Interesting Notes:

A magnificent, old time example of pyrite from Weehawken!!! This specimen consists of a diabase matrix that hosts numerous sharp, octahedral crystals of pyrite liberally strewn across its broad face!!! The pyrite crystals are very sharp octahedrons with brassy metallic brilliance!!! There are individual crystals as well as groups of intergrown crystals as well!!! The crystals protrude prominently from the matrix and the specimen is quite showy and flashy in person!!! This specimen retains an old, unattributed label that notes that the specimen was "collected Sept. 1895" and there is an affixed catalogue label as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY APRIL 28th!!!
