Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic example of pyrite from this seldom referenced South African locality!!! This specimen consists of a pair of conjoined pyritohedral pyrite crystals on a small amount of matrix!!!
The crystals have sharp faces with
highly complex modifications and striations and have bright metallic luster as well!!! The specimen is in terrific condition and displays fantastically!!!
Specimens from this locality are rarely, if ever, seen on the market!!! This specimen is from the collection of Wolfgang Pohl and retains his original label as well (the label also notes
that he acquired it from a "Dr. P.Retschmigg as well)!!!
Wolfgang Pohl worked in the mining industry in Namibia in the 70s and 80s and was a prolific collector and dealer
during and after this time!!! He would make trips back and forth to his native Germany trading specimens he had
acquired in Africa for worldwide specimens!!! Pohl was rather meticulous with his labeling and record keeping
with most of the specimens in the collection having catalogue numbers, label with info on locale, source/dealer
info, acquisition date, and any other relevant notes!!! However, the most interesting feature is that most of
the labels also had a small sketch of the specimen on the reverse side as well!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
