A rare and unique example of "gitter" quartz from Namibia!!! The word "gitter" actually means "fence" or "lattice" and it is
easy to see where the name came from!!! This specimen consists of a group of sharply ordered doubly terminated quartz crystals
that replaced an orthoclase crystal and formed parallel to its faces!!! This specimen came from a small, one time find years ago and
had been stowed away until now!!! The
find amounted to just a handful of specimens and this was a particularly fine example!!!
They are not epitaxial growths but actual replacements where the crystals are
sharply oriented with the planes of the orthoclase crystal!!! This specimen is really incredible in person - these pics hardly
capture it!!! Despite some minor damage this specimen is in magnificent condition for the
locality (most, if not all the specimens had varying amounts of damage) and it does not
detract from its amazing aesthetics and display in person!!! Needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! In a word - amazing!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
