Description/Interesting Notes:
A unique example of rhodochrosite replacing manganocalcite with quartz and pyrite from Peru!!! This specimen consists of an aesthetic cluster of large,
bladed manganocalcite crystals that have been replaced by rhodochrosite on a matrix of quartz crystals and sparkling pyrite crystals!!! There are still some
areas of manganocalcite that have not yet been completely pseudomorphed to rhodochrosite and these can be distinguished by their more creamy color, less lustrous faces, and
-most tellingly- red fluorescence under UV!!! The rhodochrosite is certainly dominant however and the crystals have a rich pink color as a result!!! There are
numerous instances where the crystals are partially coated with tiny quartz crystals as well!!! There are several groups of larger quartz crystals that provide
an aesthetic compliment as well!!! There are also numerous patches of sparkling golden pyrite too!!! This is simply a gorgeous specimen in person!!! The
pics hardly do it justice!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
