Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of rhodochrosite from Minnesota!!! This specimen consists of a rich showing of botryoidal rhodochrosite on a darkly colored, iron-rich
matrix!!! The rhodochrosite is a very pale, faint pink color and has a glistening, velveteen luster!!! Upon close examination with a scope or loupe, one
can see that these are all actually sharp, lustrous, rhombohedral faces!!! The rhodochrosite appears to have two layers, an underlying layer of opaque botryoidal rhodochrosite followed
by a thin layer of lustrous, sharply crystallized, translucent rhodochrosite!!!
Despite its unusual appearance, this IS rhodochrosite!!! This is an exceptional example of the species from
this rare locality!!! This specimen is from the collection of George Dick and it retains his original label and affixed catalogue number!!! The pics
hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
