Description/Interesting Notes:
A gorgeous example of rhodochrosite from this rare and highly sought after locality!!! This specimen consists of a
vuggy matrix of massive rhodochrosite and quartz that hosts several vugs lined with sharp, gemmy rhodochrosite crystals!!! This is a magnificent specimen from
this old time locality!!! The rhodochrosite crystals are sharp, brilliantly lustrous, gemmy, and have rich pink color!!! Even more notable however, is the fact that the
crystals show a selective secondary growth of tiny tan-colored crystals on their surfaces!!! This unique feature is quite sriking in person!!! These tan colored crystals are
actually tiny rhombs of unusually colored rhodochrosite as well!!! There are several partial pyrite crystals embedded in the matrix that have a lively brassy golden metallic
luster!!! This specimen is simply magnificent for an old time John Reed rhodo!!! This specimen is from the collection of Florence Mecke and retains
her original label and affixed catalogue number!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MARCH 24th!!!
