Description/Interesting Notes:
A unique old time example of rhodochrosite from this classic German locale!!! This specimen hosts numerous complex crystals of
rhodochrosite on a limonitic matrix!!! The rhodochrosite crystals are present both as rounded sprays and doubly terminated prismatic "bundles"!!! The crystals
are sharply defined and have marked luster!!! The most unique feature of these crystals however is their color!!! These
crystals have a curious, tan to olive green color with inner cores of the more characteristic red coloration!!!
Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope, one can see that this is NOT merely a seperate, superficial
coating on top of the rhodochrosite crystals but is actually a thin outer zone of curiously colored rhodochrosite!!!
A very interesting old time rhodochrosite indeed!!! This specimen is from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and retains an
old label with L.L. Hubbard (1849-1933) Collection notation!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
