Description/Interesting Notes:
A very rare example of rhodochrosite from Maine!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of highly complex crystals of rhodochrosite on a quartz matrix in association with
tan elongated blades of eosphorite and a few scattered crystals of an intense red-orange unknown!!! The rhodochrosite crystals are
pink to pink with an amber-brown outer layer and the larger crystals exhibit a curious adularescence as well (must be seen in person)!!! Upon close inspection, much of the
brown crystallization can be seen to be tiny almost rice-grain like crystals of translucent amber colored rhodochrosite intimately associated with
blades of eosphorite!!! This is a much more significant specimen than it appears in the pictures!!! The unknown crystals have gemmy clarity
and are very lustrous with complex, highly etched habits that range in size up to approximately 2mm!!! Examples of rhodochrosite from this region are
very rare and I have only seen a few in all my years collecting!!! The pics hardly do it justice - must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
