Description/Interesting Notes:
A very rare example of rhodochrosite with smoky quartz from the Bennett Quarry!!! Examples of rhodochrosite
from Maine are quite rare indeed!!! This is old material from the Bennett Quarry, which is quite different
than the small find made recently at Mt. Mica!!! This specimen consists of a highly complex group of intergrown
crystals of deep reddish rhodochrosite in association with minute doubly terminated crystals of dark smoky quartz!!!
The rhodochrosite has glassy luster, marked translucence, and rich red color!!! The smoky quartz crystals are quite
curious upon close inspection with a loupe or scope - they are actually doubly terminated with virtually no prism faces (middle section)
whatsoever!!! Rare material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
