Description/Interesting Notes: An amazing, old time example of ruby from Tanzania!!! This specimen consists of a large, gemmy, intensely colored ruby crystal that measures well over 4cm prominently perched on a lively green chrome diopside matrix!!! This specimen is from old material and retain an old Albanese label as well!!! This is a remarkable specimen indeed, hosting such a large crystal of gem ruby with CHOICE color!!! The crystal has glassy luster and fantastic gemmy clarity (it could easily yeild some small cut stones)!!! The old label identifies the green matrix as chrome-diopside, this is an unusual but known association from Tanzania, and upon close examination it certainly appears to be the case!!! While it superficially resembles better known material consisting of green zoisite, upon close inspection it is certainly different!!! I should note that in person the matrix is a much more intense green color and, upon close examination, the tiny green crystals that comprise the matrix are lustrous and have marked clarity!!! This is an exceptional, old time example of ruby from Tanzania and is absolutey gorgeous in person!!! A real old time stunner indeed!!! The pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!!
