WW-403 - Grandviewite (Formerly known as "Unknown #5") with Aurichalcite, Chalcoalumite, Brochantite, & Cyanotrichite - $550 ~SOLD~
This exciting new species, now officially known as Grandviewite (IMA No. 2007-004), was originally collected at this site back
in the 1970's, however it has taken over 30 years of work to finally "knock over" this beautiful species that had, just up until
April 2007, been called as "Unknown #5"!!! As sheer luck would have it, I had obtained a few specimens from the original find in
an old collection (and since they were only labeled as "unknown #5" I just held on to them, lol! Good thing, huh?!)!!! This specimen
retains an old container with old field collection notes and descriptions of this "unknown #5", etc. affixed to it!!! This is a
surprisingly rich example with almost half of the main display face covered in turquoise colored grandviewite in addition to at
least two other sizeable vugs richly lined with it as well!!! There are also numerous other copper species associated, making
for a magnificently aesthetic specimen in addition to being a SIGNIFICANT and historical example of this NEW species!!! Up until now
the very few specimens available to collectors have been but tiny specs of grandviewite that need to be pointed out and are best
appreciated with a scope!!! With this specimen - you can't miss it!!! I have included several pics with outlines so that you can
easily differentiate it from the other copper species however once you know the difference there is no mistaking it!!! This is
even more so in person where the color differences are much more apparent!!! Basically put, grandviewite is more "turquoise" in
color rather than sky-blue, robin's egg blue, cornflower, etc.!!! I am probably an idiot for not trimming this into micros
and making TONS of money but I have never been able to do stuff like that!!! I talked to two of the scholars who worked
on the project and it is my understanding that this is a significant specimen and there is simply NO MORE to be found,
despite rather valiant efforts by those familiar with the original discovery!!! All specimens have additional pictures
upon request.
