Description/Interesting Notes: A fantastic example of sanbornite and gillespite from the type locality (sanbornite) in California!!! This specmen consists of a signicant mass of whitish, slightly pearlescent sanbornite that hosts a rich showing of red gillespite!!! The sanbornite is much more apparent in person - with lustrous flashes being visible on almost every side of the specimen!!! This is a killer specimen from this seldom referenced locality!!! This specimen has great provenance too - with labels showing a chain of collectors dating back to the early 1900's!!! John Melhase was one of original founders of the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies and served as its first president!!! At the time of his passing, Melhase's collection was considered to be the second finest private mineral collection on West Coast!!! Both Chapman and Cilen were also well known collectors as well!!!
