Corundum var. Sapphire with Spinel, Pyrrhotite, & Phlogopite Limecrest Quarry, Sparta Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey 4.2cm x 3.7cm x 3.6cm

Description/Interesting Notes: A fantastic, old time example of sapphire from this classic locality!!! This specimen hosts a showy purple sapphire crystal prominently perched on matrix in association with numerous spinel crystals, massive pyrrhotite, phlogopite, and few tiny rutile crystals!!! The sapphire crystal is complete and undamaged with rich purple color and marked translucence!!! There is a prominent spinel crystal that is somewhat darkly colored (and almost appears to be partially pseudomorphic) in addition to numerous smaller spinel crystals that have a reddish-tan hue!!! There is a significant area of massive pyrrhotite present as well as some complex phlogopite crystals!!! Upon close inspection one can find a few tiny rutile crystals and some areas of an unidentified purplish mineral (fluorite?)!!! This is an OLD specimen and retains an old affixed catalogue number as well!!! There is a lot going on with this handsome old timer - the pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!!
