Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic, old time example of this rare garnet species from the type locality!!! This specimen consists of a large partial crystal of
schorlomite garnet!!! The crystal has large, lustrous faces and near black color!!! This rare garnet species is so named because of its
similar appearance to schorl tourmaline!!! While the crystal exhibits the characteristic black color,
there are some areas around the specimen that have a thin, outer crust that shows a yellowish-greenish-brown color!!! These
areas are perhaps just a millimeter thick and somewhat transparent!!! In person, the crystal is much sharper looking than it appears in the pics!!! This is
a magnificent example of this rare species!!! This specimen is from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and retains its old enamel catalogue number as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
