Description/Interesting Notes: A fantastic, old time example of this rare garnet species from the type locality!!! This specimen consists of a large partial crystal of schorlomite garnet!!! The crystal has large, well defined faces and near black color!!! This rare garnet species is so named because of its similar appearance to schorl tourmaline!!! The crystal exhibits the characteristic black color and, when viewed on the one edge, one can see some internal zonation within the crystal as well!!! In person, the crystal is much sharper looking than it appears in the pics!!! This specimen retains an old label from the collection of Florence Mecke as well!!! This is a magnificent example of this rare species!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
