A large and impressive example of selenite from Sterling Hill!!! This specimen consists of a large mass of
gemmy, crystalline selenite that hosts several species in association including magnetite, calcite, spinel, and several
unidentified species!!! The selenite has well defined crystalline features around the perimeter and broad, lustrous, gemmy
cleavage faces on the front and reverse!!! The specimen is comprised entirely of one solid crystal of selenite!!! The
associated species can be seen both suspended within the gemmy selenite as well as exposed on the surface!!! There
are numerous crystals of dark, black magnetite crystals as well as numerous dark brownish black crystals of unknown identity, that
both show somewhat rounded forms!!! There are whitish crystals of calcite scattered throughout the specimen that show
bright red fluorescence under SW UV and make for a very cool appearance since some are "floating" inside the gemmy
selenite (the pics don't even come close to capturing the lively red fluorescence seen throughout the entire specimen - it is WAY
better than the pics show)!!! There are also some small, darkly colored grains that appear to show some alteration consisting
of greenish crusts - these grains show almost bornite-like iridescence on fresh surfaces!!! Upon close inspection one can also
find smalle crystals of gem-clear blue spinel scattered about the specimen as well!!! There is a LOT going on with this
specimen and a lot to see upon close inspection with a loupe or a scope!!! Simply a fantastic example of selenite
from Sterling Hill!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer

***PLEASE NOTE: We are located in coastal New Jersey and our area has been decimated by HURRICANE SANDY. While Mandy and I are safe and did not suffer any damage, the local area is in very bad shape. The National Guard is here and there has been an overwhelming influx of help and support from all over. We have been lucky enough to have our power restored but there is a critical lack of resources throughout the area. As a result, we may experience some shipping delays and encounter other logistical issues. We thank you most sincerely for your kind wishes and patience during this time. We will continue to offer specimens from the Nikischer collection, as well as other recent acquisitions, during this time however - so don't miss out!!!
