A rare, old time example of native silver from Bisbee!!! This specimen consists of a dark,
massive chalcocite matrix that hosts a large, bright, leaf-like crystal of native silver
in association with a few tiny, dramatically compressed cerussite crystals!!! The native silver is
actually crystalline material, not simply massive leaf silver!!! The contrast of the
silver against the dark chalcocite makes for a rather handsome display!!! However, upon
further inspection there is much more going on here than it might first appear!!! When
I examined this specimen with the stereoscope I was amazed to find that these silver
crystals are actually pseudomorphs or epimorphs after the cerussite!!! The crystallization
that the silver exhibits is identical to the cerussite crystals and there are a few
instances on the specimen where they are actually intergrown!!! There are also a few
minor microcrystals of green brochantite present as well!!! This specimen was recently trimmed
from a much larger specimen and the newly exposed silver has a very lively tin-white
metallic brilliance that is simply stunning in person!!! This was the largest and most significant single crystal
of silver that was produced by the original specimen!!! As a result, this is no doubt the finest thumbnail of native silver
from Bisbee I have ever seen!!! The silver is surprisingly rigid for its appearance!!! This specimen is simply amazing in person!!! The pics
don't even come close to doing it justice!!!
