A rare, old time example of native silver from Bisbee!!! This specimen consists of a dark, massive chalcocite matrix that hosts
numerous bright, leaf-like crystals of native silver in association with dramatically compressed cerussite crystals and bright green
crystals of brochantite!!! The native silver is actually crystalline material, not simply massive leaf silver!!! The contrast of the
silver against the dark chalcocite makes for a rather handsome display!!! However, upon further inspection there is much more going
on here than it might first appear!!! When I examined this specimen with the stereoscope I was amazed to find that these silver
crystals are actually pseudomorphs after the cerussite!!! The crystallization that the silver exhibits is identical to the cerussite
crystals and there are a few instances on the specimen where they are actually intergrown!!! This specimen is simply amazing in person!!!
This specimen was recently trimmed from what was a much larger specimen and the newly exposed silver has a very lively tin-white metallic
brilliance whereas the older, previously exposed areas of silver have an somewhat "antique" patina to them!!! The resulting combination
of patinas is quite striking!!! Of the group of specimens trimmed from the original piece of silver-rich chalcocite - there were only a
few, this specimen was the best - and it is also the last!!! If so desired,
more silver could still be exposed on this specimen or it could be easily split into more
rich specimens!!! There are rich veins of silver running through this specimen in several areas and there is visible silver on nearly every
side of the specimen!!! This specimen is simply amazing in person!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Rare, old time material!!!
